Sponsors: The Consular Office of Japan in Nashville The Japan Foundation in Tokyo The Japan Club of New Orleans The Japan America Society of Mississippi (JASMIS) The Louisiana Association of Teachers of Japanese (LATJ) Southwest Mississippi Community College The objective of the contest is to promote mutual understanding and friendship between the U.S. and Japan and encourage Japanese language education in our region. It will encourage learners of Japanese to develop proficiency in Japanese and to continue studying Japanese. The Catagories and length of presentations are: High School - three to four minutes College/University First Year Level (100 hours of study or less): three to four minutes Second Year Level (200 hours of study or less): three to four minutes Third Year Level or higher: four to five minutes Any category that does not have at least five participants may be canceled. Topic: Free. Speech presentation must be from memory only. Awards: IACE TRAVEL AWARD One round trip ticket to Japan - given to the best speech of all categories. JACK PERRY STRONG AND MIHOKO STRONG AWARD $1,000 divided the 1st place winners in all categories CONSUL GENERAL SPECIAL AWARD For the best speech among the 1st place winners in all categories ZENNOH AWARD $600 divided among the 2nd place winners in all categories ROTARY CLUB OF McCOMB AWARD $300 divided among the 3rd place winners in all categories Directions: take I-55 exit 20A to Summit, MS. Go straight through the 4-way stop for approx. 1 mile until you see SMCC on the right. |
